Here's what to expect in the time leading up to bringing your new puppy home:

  1. As soon as the parents breed we will update you with a due date.

  2. Toward the end of pregnancy we’ll send a few pregnancy pictures.

  3. After the litter is born we’ll send a birth announcement with pictures.

  4. Sometime during the first couple of weeks we’ll reach out to each person on the deposit list in order to set up the day and time you can pick out your puppy as well as the date and time you can pick up your pup to go home.

  5. we’ll send updates with pictures and videos every two weeks until it’s time to bring your pup home.

  6. On picking day it’s important you’re on time as appointments are booked back to back and there will be someone waiting to choose their pup as soon as you’re finished.  You’ll meet only the pups available for you to choose.  If you’re unable to attend in person on picking day we can do a FaceTime or Zoom meeting. We hold all appointments on the same day as the people waiting behind you will be eager to pick. The parents will be onsite and available for you to meet.

  7. On pick up day, appointments are also booked back to back so it's important to be on time. We will go over feeding, vaccinations, vet records, microchip information and any other questions you may have. We’ll also add you to our private Facebook Group - Herzog Puppy Family, go over your Free month of Pet Insurance and set up your PawTree Account.  Parents will again be onsite for you to get to know and interact with.

  8. Please remember once you have a Herzog German Shepherd I make a commitment to you for the life of your dog. If you’re having training difficulties, health issues or any other matters I’ll always do my best to offer any support I can to ensure a successful family life. In the event you are having issues please contact me directly so we can work through them together. Our relationship is going to work best if we remember to treat each other with mutual respect and keep in mind that we all want to see a successful family life for the pup and everyone in your household. Becoming argumentative or upset will make it difficult for us to work together to find a good solution.

For the purpose of the following examples we’ll assume your deposit was for Litter A and you want a male. The available spot is for 4th pick of a male.  Since it’s common for German Shepherds to have litters of 8 or more pups it’s entirely possible there would be a 4th male, but here are a couple scenarios where this wouldn’t work out and how that would be handled:

  1. The parents for Litter A didn’t conceive and there will be no Litter A

  2. There are only 3 males in the litter

  3. There is a 4th male but it doesn’t have the temperament, coloring, etc. you’re looking for.

Under any of these circumstances you’ll have the option to move to the next upcoming litter of your choice in the highest available spot or hold off waiting for a different litter for up to 3 years. I would provide you with details on the upcoming litters and which spots are available in those litters so you can make the most informed decision possible.

Here are some scenarios in which the litter of your choice may not work for your home and what available options you have:

  1. Your circumstances change: Loss of job, have to move, injury, timing no longer works, etc.

  2. You decide you’d like to switch from a male to a female but a female isn’t available.

  3. You decide you’d like a pup from some of our other available parents.

Under these circumstances you’re able to hold off on picking your pup for up to 3 years. You can stay off a list entirely until you’re ready or immediately choose a new litter. There is no rush on our end as we feel choosing the right pup is a big decision. One thing to keep in mind is if you decide to stay off the list entirely and want to jump on a list with short notice there may not be available spots so try to give me as much notice as possible.

Here are some scenarios in which you may want to abandon your deposit altogether:

  1. The litter you originally chose didn’t conceive or there wasn’t a pup of the right sex, temperament, coloring, coat length, etc. available in the timeframe you’re hoping for.

  2. You find a breeder that has a litter available sooner, a lower price, etc.

  3. You decide you want to go with a different breed or species.

Under these circumstances you would contact me to let me know you’d formally like to be released from our contract so I’m free to offer the spot to another person. The deposit is forfeited as deposits are used in the care of our dogs and are unavailable for return for any reason.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE THE SALE OF OUR PUPS FOR ANY REASON IF WE FEEL THE CIRCUMSTANCES AREN’T TO THE BENEFIT OF THE PUP.
