What to look for in a breeder

Choosing a puppy is a decision that shouldn't be taken lightly as it will be part of your family for years to come.  Finding the right puppy begins with finding the right breeder.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing a breeder to work with:

A responsible breeder should be able to help you find the right puppy for your home based on the description you give of your lifestyle and their knowledge of their puppy’s temperaments.  They should be forthcoming on information about not only the puppies but their lineage as well.

Both Sire and Dam should be present so you can interact with them.  Parents with poor temperaments can result in puppies with poor temperaments.  Physical traits of the parents can be handed down to the puppies as well so pay special attention to the way they move & stand.

Kennels should be clean and puppies should be well-cared for.  They should be accompanied by AKC registration and vaccinations, but keep in mind that an AKC registration alone does not mean the pup has good lineage as they have no requirements for breeding standards.
